Our Campaign to Revitalize Our Church

Imagine back to February 24, 1847 in Grantville, the former name of our Wellesley Hills neighborhood, when the very first members of this congregation met in a railroad passenger house, formed a church, and then dug into their pockets and raised the funds to build the first church building.

About fifty years later that original church meeting house had become too small, was razed, and the Sanctuary and Assembly Room we have today was built. Imagine how the beautiful new stone facade and broad stairs announced to all who passed by that this was a holy place of God’s strength and refuge which welcomed everyone.

We have come a long way from those first members who met in the railroad passenger house and much has changed in the world around us. What has not changed is the deep commitment our congregation has demonstrated to the care and renovation of our sacred space so that we may live out our faith as a caring community of God in the world.
